Paid internship position available

Titelbild is currently seeking dynamic and talented young graduates with a passion for film and a special interest in translation and subtitling to fill an intern position at our Berlin office. Internships are available for candidates with the following language combinations:

  1. 1. English > Dutch (Dutch mother tongue) (6-12 month internship; with a subsequent limited contract)
  2. 2. French, German > English (English mother tongue) (8-12 month internship)
  3. 3. Spanish, German > English (English mother tongue) (8-12 month internship)
  4. 4. Italian, German > English (English mother tongue) (8-12 month internship)

Responsibilities

During the course of the internship, the intern will gain experience in translation and subtitling, how to use subtitling software and learn about the different aspects of the audio visual translation process. Responsibilities include translating and adapting dialogues to match the images and reading time available; spotting, i.e. determining when a subtitle should appear and disappear on screen, while observing natural speech rhythm and viewer reading speed; ascertaining individual frames and handling cuts, implementing quality assessment criteria for subtitles; proofreading and revision tasks.

Qualifications

Applicants should have sound writing skills in their mother tongue, exceptional translation skills, a background in language or translation studies.

Duration and conditions

The fulltime internship is for a period of 6-12 months. Candidates on the Erasmus Work Placement system are preferred.
